I remember listening to a stallholder at a car boot sale chatting about the sunny/cloudy weather, and her cardigan.
"So far it has been off and on more times than I can recall, and I have only been here for two hours!"
When we moved to Yorkshire, it was easy knowing how much to wear. We just looked out the window, at the locals, and wore a little bit more than they did. Yorkies are very hardy. I am very not!
If I didn't know better I would have thought from that you were a southener
The Scots are hardy folk? At least having their raincoats handy in the west? Still the east coast of the UK, although cold, tends to be dryer.
My genetics are 50% scots 25% irish, 25% yorkie. When it comes to hardy, I think there is maybe 10% wimp genes needing squeezed in there.
I do lack personal padding though, and that's my excuse.

I'll share some of my padding with you. Not sure if it makes me hardy, though, or just soft to squeeze. LOL
I baked muffins this morning and got out for a walk. We also took care of the vacuuming. Went out for lunch, and then flipped through neglected library books. (They were my picks; the kids zip through theirs!)
I managed to get out for a walk yesterday before any rain came. That was mostly overnight. I was busy with my hobbies in the afternoon. Now it is cooler the garden needs less attention although the rain will prompt things to grow quicker.
The plumber fitted us a new toilet, and also one for my step daughter.
I am now £930 poorer.
Wow!!! Don't go to college, become a plumber to make a lot of money.
A lot of plumbers do go to collage. Theres a lot to learn to be a good plumber. My husband is/ was an HVAC engineer ( to give him his full title) thats heating , ventilation and air conditioning. That includes plumbing.. The things he has seen from DIY to so called professional jobs range from where crossed pipes led to wc that flushed hot water and sewer pipes running back to the house. To major problems with air conditioning in an office block that could have made people seriously sick all because of cheap unskilled labour. Often the price reflects the training and years of experience. Just as it does in white collar jobs.
That was for both toilets, with labour about £280.
He is coming back tomorrow, as the seat is sliding to one side.
The plastic screw fixing of toilet seats are notorious for slipping and thats often what sends the seat sideways , sometimes a bit of ptfe tape helps to keep them tight.

I think most professions have come across some fascinating diy repair jobs. I know I have.

The modern thing OH likes to point out and laugh at is the whirlpool baths and the hanging toilet with conceled cisterns...
Very often both DIY and professionals add a tiled bath siding or tiled back wall to the toilet and leave no access hatch.. This means if your pump on the whirlpool goes so does your tiling,, similarly if the ballcock or flush breaks on the conceled toilet cistern the whole back wall has to be ripped out. Cost of old fashioned ballcock is a few pounds plus fitting v the cost of rebuilding your nice hanging toilet and possible flood damage = thousands.. Oh and most people dont have a stop valve in the bathroom so water has to be turned off for the whole house.
In my house each system is isolated theres a main stop valve plus one just for the kitchen, bathroom ,wc etc so we can isolate each room.
Today my knees will suffer. My friend has a new home help and he is pursuading her to de-clutter. Great idea but.. She lives in a second floor flat and shes housebound .
So how to get rid of the stuff she has agreed to get rid of? The council will collect it from the roadside at an agreed date but it wont magically get there. So Ive said I will make the appointment at the dump and take it there today.
That means 3 or 4 trips up and down the stairs ( theres no lift) and then get it all in my car and away to the tip before she changes her mind.

The most amusing I came across was a diy computer repair in which a patient thought the problem was the hard drive and flooded the case with WD40

I went to town my sister today. We tried on loads of different clothes. I ended up with a white autumn-style rollneck. I have a new blue dress, too. I also have a new ring and pair of earrings. We stopped off at a local pub for lunch: I had Mac & Cheese, while my sister had soup.
I also ate my dinner at my dad's house: my dad cooked steak and onions. I helped a bit. I later was driven home by my dad and here I am!

We have had a valve fitted to the new toilet.
A reminder for me to turn our main stop tap a little. The trouble with our very hard water is that it siezes up valves so they become inoperable. I make certain I move the main tap once in a while so I know it will work when needed.
Edit: Yes it was stuck a little although it only needed hand force to move it. I leave it very partially closed so that movement either way will free it and I know I am not working aginst the end stop.
Well I was going to mow the lawn but with the wind and the rain clouds haning overhead I think that job is on hold. Im doing a household finacial breakdown/check . I like to keep an eye on things to make sure we are not paying too much . I review suppilers each year and where necessary I make changes.

When I worked at the market garden, as a kid, I was told off for opening the main tap all the way, as they were prone to jamming open....

We tend to do that as we go along, but sometimes you just let things ride. Your idea is probably better, as you focus solely.
