No it's normal here to tile a bathroom entirely from floor to ceiling it is sealed so that there are no problems if water gets on the floors.
I actually don't like painted bathrooms nor do I like carpets in any rooms like bathrooms toilets or kitchens.
I am also against carpet anywhere in the house since we mob the floor quite frequent.
I notice that most European bathrooms are completely tiled. Here we use glossy/eggshell paints that seal moisture and we can actually wipe the walls if they are dirty. I use eggshell for bathrooms and kitchen and semigloss for the entire house.
Our bathroom is only partly tiled, as are most that I know. I don't know about mainland Europe but I have seen few completely tiled bathrooms here, in the average home, except in commercial establishments like hotels etc. We have similar glossy / eggshell paints too. We fairly recently re-painted our kitchen using this paint. It's much better than the original paint as builders only use cheap emulsion which obviously comes off if you do have to clean it.
As Jen said over the tiling. We have carpets upstairs, but laminate downstairs. We have carpets upstairs and laminate downstairs. As Annie said, mopping is important.
We are also slowly re-decorating, following builders cheap paintwork. So far I have done my dressing room, the bathroom, and replaced the awful kitchen laminate. The bathroom needs re-painting. I wanted sunshine yellow, but the white had a tinge of blue in it, so some lights show it off as green. Pfffft.

Sorry yes I was talking about the mainland.. I guess it comes from the love of showers here as opposed to baths. Many houses have wet rooms and open showers with the water running into a drain in the floor. Bathrooms here are mostly sealed like swimming pools!

My bathroom is fabulous: I have a peach flower designed loo seat & lid. I have blue and white tiling around the bath and above the sink. The rest of the walls are painted white. I have a grey floor. The bathroom suite is white. The shower curtain is blue and green.
I absolutely love my bathroom: it is my favourite room in my apartment.
You have all seen my bathroom furniture. I think it turned out ok, and it seems to be lasting. I haven't noticed any damage as yet to the paintwork.
You are very handy Cherry, yes, it looks cheerful and nice.
From what everyone described here, I think mine is on the plain side.
Your style could be called simple, but you have never posted a single picture of anything plain. Au contraire, you have a lot of style. It even looks effortless.

I just hate clutter, dust and mess: it drives me up the wall.
I want to throw away as much stuff as I can: and keep it all digital. I don't want to be emotionally attached to objects. [Except my computer and washer/dryer!]

I don't mind some emotional attachment, but it can't be to everything. If I couldn't even throw out a broken pencil without a big to-do, I say that's an issue for me. But wanting to keep some of my book collection for sentimental reasons is okay with me. I keep some limitations in place, though, so I don't end up with a hoarding problem!

There is always a line to be drawn, along with some grey areas surrounding.

There certainly ARE objects I like and won't get rid of: like my computer, Boombox and washer/dryer. Those are useful objects. But if I'm struggling to throw away a napkin, that is a problem.
So many people struggle with hoarding: it happens in most households [but don't quote me on that]. Things change and throwing away items makes people let go of their past: and that is where the problem lies. If you're mourning the past, putting an old love letter in the bin is hard. Even though it has to be done.
Thankfully, I am able to put anything - and everything - in the bin. I don't want objects holding me back from the future.
I have three boxes in my loft these are memory boxes for the children they contain the bracelet that was put on their wrist when they were born, their first outfit that they came home from hospital in, little favourite things like a rattle or blankie, and then their first Christmas cards, birthday cards until they're about 5 years old and then school reports through their primary school years.
For myself I have a little memory box, tickets and photographs from events that OH and I have attended, cards he has sent me, little notes that he's left me. Nothing special just a box full of tat but lots very special memories and lots of love.
However I am very careful in not allowing this to spill over into every single thing ever touched or photo ever taken, my memory boxes are limited to the size of the box.
I have a folder for all the cards / letters and a few photograph albums too. There are lots of bits and pieces from over the years but they are not really in any one place.
I have a nice floral box that is tied shut with a ribbon that I keep in my sewing room.
That sounds so pretty, kjay!
Having treasured possessions in a pretty box can be made to give character to your home. I also agree no one should throw away items they deeply value and treasure. Even though I'd be a minimalist, I still know of nostalgia and special memories. To me, I need to only keep some items. Of course, no one is suggesting we ram our homes with stuff! I realize that.
It is like when I watch "The Repair Shop" I can see how precious items can be to people: the memories they hold. You can't ignore that. Having their precious things restored puts a glow in their hearts and you can see the joy in their faces. That is what matters.
