So we are catching the edge of Storm Lilian. Its not raining yet but it will do later.. * Daar komt een schip met zure appelen aan* or the ship of sour apples is coming... to describe the approach of rain.
Once it gets here there are a plethora of words used to describe it... ranging from Light rain or drizzel.. lichte motregen, motregen, zware motregen, (three degrees of light drizzle) miezelen , miezeren and spetteren moderate rain..regen, buien, druppen to the heavy stuff, gieten, gutsen, hozen, het regent pijpenstelen ( like cats and dogs) and hondenweer.(weather for dogs ? yeah I never understood that one either).
and many more often including some rather colourful word or those that include ice, which are reserved for winter.
I think the amount of ways to say rain actually says a lot about the Dutch climate .

Much the same in Scotland
I remember the first time I took the so there. It was raining when we got up, and still raining when we went to bed. England is rainy, but it is never all day.

It looks like a repeat of yesterday with temps in the mid to upper 80s with a lot of afternoon storms. Hopefully we will be as lucky as yesterday and they will miss us. Most places yesterday had torrential downpours and a lot of lightning.
