I had a startle today. Thats not an alligator. It's a crocodile. I moved out of the area right away, they are not like alligators and can be and often are very aggressive.
Is that at the bottom of your garden?
Jen, it's out behind my house but further back into the woods on a stream that runs through the swamp.
Same story with foxes and rats. Its human laziness that bought them into our towns and cities because we throw food around and leave it on the ground.
Here pigeons are rare lapwings outnumber them 100 to 1. Foxes are said to be a pest to farmers and we are supposed to be overrun with them yet in 34 years Ive only seen two. On a trip to London I sat down at a pub garden and had one sniffing round my feet in minutes. Rats here live along canal banks and fields , not in people's houses.
Fast food outlets here are not as prolific as the UK and the streets are generally cleaner.

Our neighbour feeding the birds daily makes a big difference. Just looking out the back I was surprised when I didn't see any pigeons. My neigbour was in the garden though so that is probably the reason. The smaller birds queue up but the pigeons are more nervous. These are countryside birds though, not town (wood pigeons etc). They are natural to our landscape and farming methods. Foxes are rarely seen here but there are some. There are rats but they appear cleaner than the ones seen in cities. They have a more natural diet. They have been known in houses but it is usually the older ones.
