This morning the unthinkable happened... but according to the other owner it was my fault.. I should correct my dog.. I shouldnt be so uptight , Im a silly cow..
That was the comments of the owner of a dog this morning ... He was cycling with his dog way in front of him.( dog not on lead). It came charging round the bend in the park and just launched itself biting and snarling at me and Benny ( Benny was ON lead) it was all over Benny and the owner was nowhere in sight..
I pulled Benny away but the dog kept coming, pushing through my legs to get at Benny again , so... sorry but it got a kick in the ribs from me to keep it at bay..
Owner arrives says 'ah he just wants to play' 'If he didnt your dog would be injured and hes not so stop making a fuss'.. I tell him theres no way it was play, that Benny is 14 and blind so he cant even defend himself because he cant see where the attack is coming from.
Then tells me all of the above reasons for it being my fault and cycles off...
When I get a good look I see Benny is injured so I put him and Remy in the car and set off to find the man.. I did find him and I tooted and pulled over, he got really aggressive that I dared to toot at him (wasnt interested that Benny was injured) but I got his name and a photo of him and Bennys injuries.....He has about 1cm of skin missing from his ear and then a puncture wound straight through and a tiny puncture on his cheek..Ive bathed them and made sure they are clean..
Ive reported it to the police.. Benny has been very quiet all day.. At one point he laid on his cushion and Remy went over and laid in front of him as if he was guarding his friend.. I felt really angry at the arrogant attitude of this man about injuries his dog caused to an elderly disabled dog , and I wish I had been quicker to act and prevent it..
OK well I saw the police today.. It didnt come to much because it boils down to his word against mine ( even though I have photos of the injuries). In this country dogs are seen as good or possesions, so his possesion damaged mine thats not a police matter its like having a small bump with the car you are supposed to exchange details and sort it out with insurence companies!
But they have written down my statement and are sending one officer round to talk to him about his behaviour toward me, and the animal control officer to talk to him about taking responibilty for his dog. The council have also been advised that they have an out of control dog in the area and will be contacting the man..
Via facebook and the local telephone book I was able to find out quite a bit about this man ..He is 39 and a football referee, his claim to fame being that he refereed games in the London 2012 paralympics..He has done an interview in a local paper and is so proud of himself and talks about respect being such an important part of the game ..( hypocrite)
As I pointed out to the police he is putting himself up there as a role model and yet he behaves like an absolute pig. They agreed but sadly its not against the law to be an uncouth pig!
I hope the upcoming visits from local officals will help deflate his overblown ego..
Meanwhile Benny is still very nervous of any other dog coming near him but we will just keep him close and make sure all contact is positive.
Hi Cassie We have had some similar cases here and unlike in your case, the media made it a big deal. They report these things on the news with a description of the man/dog, location of the attack, etc. Maybe you can do the same - complain more publicly. it is probably not just a 1-time thing. That crazy dog probably bites others. You are lucky your dog was not too badly injured

Dogs are people too because they become part of your family. That footy ref is an A-hole! People should bring up their dogs like they do with their children, unless of course they don't raise their children properly. Cass, good luck to you and Benny.
Via facebook and the local telephone book I was able to find out quite a bit about this man .................................
I am curious as to how much info you had to get started.........
Well he told me his name and Id taken his photo.. So first I tried on FB typing in his name and found several possibles so then looked at the profile pictures and confirmed that he had given me his real name. Then I worked out from the point at which he crossed the main road what area he was headed into. I then searched the local telephone book for possible matches and got 3 in this area with one on the direct road he crossed into.. Double checking the name and adress I came up with a second number listed with his full name.. Also by searching in google with his name and the town I found the newspaper articles about him being a football ref and having been a ref at the 2012 paralympics.
Bear in mind I dont work with computers or any kind of search/info work

Cass, how could someone that was a ref for the paralympics be so cruel regarding animals?!? Maybe he has a split personality.
What got me was that the motto for the organisation he works for is RESPECT written in caps along their headline..
He called me names and said I should try driving headlong into the traffic after his dog bit Benny.. I wonder where his respect had gone to at that point...
You did well, many would have cowered after that. Good for you! He sounds like a real thug.
I was taking my dog along the old railway track yesterday, when I heard motor bikes coming behind me. I turned and looked over my shoulder, he must have thought I was going to step over that way as he jammed on his brakes and skidded right past me.
At which point he started swearing at me. Had he been in my face I would have responded, but he was further ahead.
When I got further along, they were heading towards me, and then they both stopped, and turned off their engines. I thought "here we go" and remembered how big my dog is .
Well, they never said anything, so he must have realised he was in the wrong, but you won't get an apology from a yorkie.
Ok, time for a puzzle that has baffled us since dinosaurs roamed the earth.
How come when the dog greets you it can whack it's tail repeatedly and violently against sharp door corners, sharp cooker corners, chair legs etc etc etc etc
Yet, step on their tail with the softest slippers and they are howling like stuck pigs?

Just an update on Benny. Yesterday I took him and Remy to the little island we walk at. Remy just high tailed it back to the car asap. So he had to go on lead. Benny was off lead but it was pitiful instead of striding out as his normal confident self he felt out every step as if he had entered a totally new world, he jumped and backed off when he got too close to a dustbin obviously scared so I kept the walk short with lots of treats and good boy encouragement. This moring I walked him in the park where he was attacked and met up with the ladies and their dogs all of whom greeted him with big wagging tails and Im happy to say that for the first time in a week he responded.
I also heard that the man whos dog attacked him has told people that he tried to give me his phone number but that I was hysterical and ran off before he could talk to me.. One lady said 'I found that strange because when I think of you the last word I think of is hysterical' I think 'sir' has had a visit from police/council and is trying desperatly to apply damage limitation,..
The bad luck just keeps coming in my house.. after the whole episode with Benny getting bitten I thought Id had my quota of doggy disasters for a while but no..
On Sunday evening Remy wee'd on the chair then last night he did it again on the carpet in the living room.. Not just a couple of drops but a whole wee.
So off we went to the new vet I took some urine with me in a sterile jar..Thinking he could have a urine/bladder infection.
They dipped the urine couldnt find glucose, blood, protein or infection but said the saturation is low... So they did a blood test and I get the results of that tomorrow.
While doing the general exam the vet says she hears a heart murmer..
15 minutes ..e160 poorer and with no real answers we arrived back home.
Now Ive thought about it I have a few questions that I want to ask when they phone tomorrow.. Im not sure Im impressed with this new lot of vets.
We had a great walk this morning, Remy and Benny really enjoyed walking through a local park and seeing the goats and geese.. Then we saw a lady with a small dog nervously coming toward us.. I assured her Benny wouldnt do anything and so she allowed her dog to sniff at Benny.. She explained she had got a dog because she hoped it would help her over her fear of dogs.. I asked if it had worked and she explained she wasnt so bad now except with German shepherds.. With a perfectly serious face she explained that it was all due to an expierence she had in a former life when she was ripped to shreds by a pack of german shepherds..
I congratualted her on getting over her fear enough to brave getting a dog herself and moved on..
