Mum sent me the biography of Debbie Harry lead singer with Blondie. I was a fan as a child.
Only in a few chapters but already slightly disturbing and strange !
I do know her songs and one other little tidbit. One day one of her songs came on the radio and my dad told me she was once a centerfold in one of those Playboy type magazines. That's all i know about her lol.

She talks about being a target for sexual advances from men from about the age of 5....
To be honest it sounds as if she brags about it .. A bit off putting.

I'm not a big reader myself but I'm currently reading the original Dracula by Bram Stocker. Quite interesting since it's narrated from the point of view of the characters thorough their personal diaries. 🤓
I got terribly sidetracked with that book by thoughts like, "No one would remember pages of dialogue so exactly!" and "So much description! People don't really talk/write like that!" I think the epistolary format can work, it just didn't in this case - for me, anyway.
Now I need to find the title of a teen book that was all in texts. I loved it! Case of mistaken identity ensued, and the format just worked somehow...

I wonder if the bragging is a coping mechanism. Instead of feeling like a victim, she spins it to be something she feels she can control. That's my guess, anyway.

With the boys, I'm reading The Door Within (fantasy for the older boys) and Prince Caspian (oh look, more fantasy for the youngest, hee hee). I finished a Christmas story recently that fits into a Kimberly Rae Jordan series (New Hope Falls) and now I'm reading a cowboy tale from Valerie Comer. Then I think I've got another Elizabeth Maddrey waiting. Kindle Unlimited increased the number of titles I can borrow at one time, so I'm lining them up and hoping I don't forget to read them!
I have a special print book to re-read, or just place on the shelf for later. It's The Rose Gate by Hanna Sandvig (Valerie Comer's daughter). She's a friend of mine from school days. This is the hardcover that she actually released after the paperback, rather than the typical hardcover first. I own both to support her, but also because I enjoy this teen series of modern retellings of fairy tales.

I spent over 3 hours reading yesterday: and the book was worth every minute.
The main character was having an affair. Needless to say, the man she was having an affair with did a runner and her husband and herself broke up. But there was no reunion at the end: they stayed friends instead, which disappointed me as a reader. I wanted them to live happily ever after. But the writer knew the story and did a stellar job.
For lovers of crime fiction..Paul Finch..HIGHLY recommend. You have to read them in order though..
Stalkers..Sacrifice..The Killing Club..Dead man Walking..Hunted.. Ashes to Ashes...Kiss of Death,, book number eight is due out early next year. Excellent reading. Cant put one down once I start

I finished a Christmas book today and sent my mum a photo of the cover as part of my recommendation. It's called An Ivy Hill Christmas (Julie Klassen). If she hasn't already signed it out of the library before, I let her know I'll have it back there soon. And I'll keep the author in mind when looking for ebooks or other library books. Nice to have found a new author!
Now I should get back to non-fiction during the day, besides reading The Scarlet Pimpernel via Serial Reader. The online book club I'm hosting has the first two books picked out now, so we'll do How Did I Get Here? (Christine Caine) for October and Get Out of Your Head (Jennie Allen) for November. I'm not finished with the first, but read the second last summer and will refresh my memory for the discussion.
Current Narnia book with the youngest boy: The Horse and His Boy. I know the Calormenes are supposed to be quite brutal in all the books and they're enemies of the Narnians, but I love reading their poetic and flowing speech. "Oh my father and the delight of my eyes..." "Deep draughts from the fountain of reason are desirable in order to extinguish the fire of youthful love." "Application to business is the root of prosperity, but those who ask questions that do not concern them are steering the ship of folly towards the rock of indigence." Fun stuff!

Ever heard of a manga series called With the Light? It's about a family in Japan raising a child with autism. I've read the series and the oldest was re-reading them in ebook format (since we couldn't get them in print when I was reading them). Well, we got the interest of the middle guy, who has autism!
He's on Vol. 2 now, from the library. Love it! We'll have to see if he's ready for the jump to ebooks once he finishes what the library has...
Meanwhile, I'm making progress with Hunt, Gather, Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff. Really good and practical!

Never heard of it, but that's great. I always feel it's nice to see people similar to you in books, movies, tv shows, etc. A character you can better connect with.

Yes! I wasn't sure how the middle guy would feel about it, though. He's never shown interest in stories of kids with autism before. Maybe this will be just the first!

Aw, hopefully! Well, I guess I can see it having the opposite effect in some. I hope it doesn't make him feel different in a bad way if it's not often to see similar people as himself portrayed. We're all different in ways, but still mostly the same overall!

I started a Julie Klassen book (Lady Maybe) last night that's in a stack near my reading chair. Once I got over the confusing beginning - and I won't spoil by explaining why I was confused, since that's part of the plot! - I was a bit hooked and read later than planned. ☺️ I hope I continue enjoying it!
Miriam Margolyes This much is true. When I heard Miriam had written a book I had to have it , she brightens any day she really is funny..
I also like her. She was in the series about celebs living in india, and came across as a pleasant person to spend time with, and genuine.
That's right, the real marigold hotel. She was just so funny. And I saw her on good morning with Holly and Phillip where she demanded an ice cream and then ask for a part in call the midwife which she eventually got. But I also loved her series through America where she went toe-to-toe with a trump supporter, Miriam's about 5-ft tall and the trump supporter was about 6-ft 6 but she didn't give a hoot and she really gave him what for.
I picked up Star Mother: A Novel as my monthly free book... Out of the choices, it sounded the most interesting. Not sure when I'll get around to it like all the others, but it's there for a rainy day lol
