I can't remember if I responded to this or not. I have a crap ton of books but haven't read in a while. I have to wait until I get new glasses before I can read again. Right now I can't see too good to read. YouTube might have a channel for free audio books and some other website I found might. I like reading and prefer actual books. I just wish they didn't take up so much space and were easier to recycle. I don't use the library here because the homeless people frequent it and often bring bed bugs into the facility where they have to shut it down and treat the place cuz they get into the book covers. NOT bring that into the house. No way!

I'm reading some Christmas books I had set aside on one of my bookshelves. I think most came from my mum clearing her shelves. So far, I've read one book by Debbie Macomber with Cedar Cove characters. The second book, called One More for Christmas, is okay and I'm sticking it out for now because of an interesting premise of a rich woman reexamining her life because of a freak accident and now she's trying to reconcile with her daughters. Oh, and they're going to Scotland for Christmas!
After this, I might borrow another Baxter Family novel or read one of the used Star Trek hardcovers I have. One of the Star Trek novels I borrowed lately was good (the one from 2011) but the second was just okay (just a couple years old). I don't know if the new ones are worth buying these days...
Not a book as such but I only noticed that in the book exchange, which is and old telephone box which I go to, there is a light (without switch) which was on yesterday. I have wondered who organises things but there must also be expense in the form of the electricity bill. I suspect it is under council and street lighting. It's in another village though so I don't see parish council details. It's not somewhere I would go in the night though. I will ask a local when I get chance

I am reading "Unexpected Blessings" by Barbara Taylor Bradford. It is part of the "A Woman Of Substance" saga.
I've read "A Woman Of Substance" a fair few times over the past two years. It is such a brilliant novel. It is long, though: you need incredible patience to read it fully. BUT it is worth it: at least for me.
Anyhow, I love reading and continue to go to the library.
I'm reading some Christmas books still, but also have Downton Shabby to try out. I'd read about the author in a BBC news article, plus the title is catchy!

I just looked that book up on Amazon and read the preview! OMG, I surely hope they make a series out of it! He's got the creds, and I would surely watch it. Airing it on HGTV would bring some revenue to offset the tremendous cost of renovation.
Great idea! I wonder if there's been some documentary filming already, or maybe they could look back at the renovations. I've seen that done with other country houses in England and Scotland, and it's so fascinating to see the differences made!
I noticed yeaterday that I am part way through several books. I was looking for a bookmark for an "Inspector Morse" which I got from the book exchange yesterday. They were all in use

Need more bookmarks then!
I'm reading a Star Trek novel from the 90's, so my "Out of This World" spacey bookmark is in that hardcover. I do have another Star Trek book on the go, with the older boys - from the Star Trek Picard series, we're reading Book 1, The Last Best Hope.

Bookmarks are just food packages cut into strips.
My current bookmark says Rice Krispies.
I never realized how many bookmarks I have in my kitchen pantry. lol...

I discarded said-library-book: it was just porn and had no substance. You wouldn't have thought a library book would be that graphic. No: I put the book down and am reading "The Green Man At Eshwood Hall" by Jacob Kerr instead. It is a much, much better book.
The "Inspector Morse" book I was reading was "Last Bus to Woodstock". I finished it yesterday so thought, just for interest, I would watch the TV series version of the same story on ITV player on the TV. It was interesting how they had really totally destroyed the story and produced a poor, although watchable, imitation. I am so glad I read the book first.

The cross over that was worse for me was "The Time Travellers Wife," Brilliant book, dull film.

I'm glad you mentioned it before I decided to watch it. I might have the book around here somewhere. (Which is a sign I have too many books, I suppose. I tend to ignore that, though! LOL)

The Time Traveller's wife is brilliant for two reasons mainly. Firstly, it is utterly novel. I have never read a story anything like that ever. It really is a new concept. Secondly, a lot happens 'off camera' but it is so well done, that your imagination takes you there, so the book feels twice as in-depth as it actually is.

I finished the novel Ruth (Lois Henderson) this morning, which makes it my 150th book in 2022! This includes books read by myself, with the youngest boy for his storytime, and also with the older two. I love that I get to read so much!

I finished Q-Squared (Peter David) this morning. (Almost stayed up late last night to finish it. I loved the plot idea of having multiple timelines running alongside each other and then starting to converge in a big mess. Fun! (It was a Star Trek novel from the 90's, but it makes me think of Doctor Who's phrase "Wibbly wobbly timey wimey.")
For print books, I'll try a different Star Trek used hardcover. Might end up reading a book with my Kindle soon, or on the Nook app I've got on the tablet. (I forget about it for a while here and there, but I've got a Nook library of e-books, even though my Nook reader died a while ago.)
I have started Peter James "Dead Man's Grip". Another Inspector Grace book. Having read half way through I can say it is a good read, if a little iffy on life / procedure at times.
