Did you ever get into a physical fight with anybody?

Oh, I did once drag my older sister down by the hair and kick her in the face.

Not at all relaxed about that, even so many years later.

I punched my brother in the face before, but it's because he kept asking me to nonstop, and I guess I just did it so he'd shut up. It was kind of in a mocking way, and he thought I was weak, but he had braces so I made him cut himself.

Another time I kicked him in the junk, I forget why. I wouldn't be surprised if he mocked me again. Typical older brother, I guess, to a certain extent. At least he's not like that anymore.

Yeah, but I felt bad afterward lol but he was always pushing me, and he would act like I didn't have the guts, well... I always liked proving people wrong LOL

You know this post actually stings a bit. We in the lesbian community are trying to take back the word dyke because it has been so long used as a word to demon-fy gay women, but especially gay women who don't fit into the stereotypical femme pretty lesbian. The fact that you added what you think she weighed makes it so much more hurtful.

So if you are not a size 2 femme you are a "lesser" lesbian? Does your weight have any bearing on being a woman at all? Other than describing how much one weighs.

It’s also ironic that this ended up in this thread as one of the few fights I have ever been in, one of the things the two men were screaming while they were beating the living crap out of me was “f**king dyke” this or that. All because I dared not to dance with them.

I know your intention was not to insult anyone here but sometimes words can really hurt those in ways you don’t think of. We are all women here, straight or gay or whatever and this should be a safe place no matter what our label.

I myself am very femme but I am also a big, strong woman (farm girl) and I think it hit a bit close to home. Maybe I am being overly sensitive. Maybe I need to take a break from this forum for a while.

Thats the thing I would never want dyke to be banned. I want to  celebrate it.  I refer to myself as a dyke and so do most of my lesbian mates. By taking the word back we are taking its power away from people who use it against us. I am just very very sad seeing it still used in such a negative way esp by another woman. We should never ever use a word like that in that manner which can be applied to so many other women who identify that way.

Where does the word come from, surely it has some historical use?
