You should've seen the rubbish bins outside my block of flats, a_muppet.
I had to contact the council about it. Thankfully they came over within a few days and cleared it all. However, it does not solve people putting rubbish in the right coloured bins: like recycable into the 2 big blue bins and non-recycable in the 2 big green bins. PLUS, the right recycable materials, such as plastics.
Because if people don't respect the bins - and use the correctly coloured bins - it's going to make things harder for the rubbish collection service. And I don't want overflowing bins near my apartment, thank you very much.
I have said this before I think: The local council should be sorting all the rubbish, and I mean ALL. This will create jobs, minimise waste, and cut down lots and lots of pollution.
It may not be as cheap as leaving us to do it, but it will get done better.
One of my brain cells woke up yesterday ..I felt it move and then it had an idea...
We ahve been moaning about how our council is going to cut back/charge more for rubbish collections. We do our best already we recycle green/glas/paper/fabric.. But there is nowhere to seperate and have plastic waste collected except in the household rubbish and thats whats taking up most space in the bin.
But my little brain cell reminded me that once a month we do our big shop in Germany thats where we buy most of our shampoo /washing liquids etc all of which comes in plastic bottles and the Germans love to recycle, so outside their supermarkets they have the glas /paper/fabric recyclebins but they also have one for plastic !
Simply clean and collect all our plastic waste as we go and take it back when we go shoppping!
rest now little brain cell before you get worn out..

How would you implement such a scheme? Do you think it's viable?
I think your idea is excellent and you should find a way to make it happen.

Good luck!

Ok , I dont want to sound like the voice of doom or say I told you so but..... All this hype about us all having electric cars outside the door in the next 10 years..Ive always said where is all that power coming from? Quite apart from the fact we cant make enough green energy so gas, coal or nuclear would have to be used making the whole green idea a bit of a nonsense. The network operator for electricity in the Netherlands has now said the grid is at its maximum. some cities are more affected than others but for our town there will be no new charging points for electric cars and no new connections for large businesses. Its not just the power generating stations its the sub stations the local stations the networks in the streets. They were laid some time ago and although the capacity was there for modern housing each car charging point draws much more and the network cant cope.
Then there are warmth pumps which are often critised because they don't deliver enough heat, well here at 2mtrs below sea level it seems there isn't enough water ! so the whole project has had to be shelved for the time being. These wonderful ideas are just that for now because out there in the real world they are running into real problems and no one has the answer to them yet.

I still haven't heard how everyone can even get to park outside their own homes.
Alternatively, will the chargers be at the roadside outside of homes? Or will the leads go over the pavement? Will they all be secure against passers by?
My home has parking space for 4 cars, and we own 2. My neighbour has parking space for 2 and three cars and a van. How are they all supposed to get to work all charged up at around 9.00 monday to friday?
I know I've seen some looking into adding some type of power source into the roads themselves, so then you potentially can charge while driving. That might be way into the future if anything.... lol

Actually some of these ideas have been presented ~10 years ago. I don't know how much closer they've come to reality, though.
While researching Solar Roadways just now, I came across this from the Netherlands:
I saw this video when it first came out, and the company has been making some strides. Here is the URL for their web site: solarroadways.com/

Crystal, about 7 years ago, there was a company raising fund on Kickstarter to do this, they actually raised a few millions dollars, I am wondering if this is the same company.

Like the old trams?
That is the first good idea I have heard?
I'm not sure where this one will go but it seems limited to me:
Is the M180 not being constantly dug up and refurbished enough?
I haven't been up there for quite some time. When I was working more in the area I used to call it the quietest motorway in England as it was so peaceful. There used to be a little work but I was never held up in the slightest. Times change, I suppose, and now I would maybe not recognise it.
Not sure about all those super duper ideas on the road but one rather cute thing I've seen in a village nearby is the use of discarded CDs these are attached to roadside markers, gate posts or trees and they reflect in your headlights in a village with no street lighting they provide an ideal roadside guide.
I'm sure they did in exactly the same way as tobacco companies knew what tobacco did to our health. In the same way that those invested in asbestos kept reports made as early as the 1870s documenting the health dangers of asbestos quiet.
The fact is that we cannot expect these companies to cut their own throats. That's why we need independent studies and to listen to whistleblowers.

Exactly Cassie. They basically have gotten away with murder.
Ive seen this morning that some people are poking fun at William Shatner for his recent 'space' journey.
That fact that the man who has spent his life playing a space traveller can be so moved by the sight of our blue planet shining in the darkness of space shows how special that it is.
Such a shame then that his jaunt will do nothing to help preserve the planet and that what he is seeing is our planet as it dies.
I cant see climate change laws being implmented world wide. Most leaders cant agree what day of the week it is let alone anything that restricts their army or their income. A lot of this is pipe dreams , Im sad to say but Im glad Im the age I am. hopefully Im going to be dead by time it all hits the fan but I do feel sorry for my grandchildren.

I am fascinated by space and space travel. I'd LOVE to go into space. Plus, seeing earth from space is a spectacular sight. It is a sight no one could ever forget. And never should. Because this planet is incredible and a planet I feel honoured to be on.
