I just come up to this thread, BIG thanks for my sweetiecherry for giving me an idea. Anyhow, on this thread please do share on what you think that you have that others don't. it could be anything, someone, something, nothing..LOL! just kidding anything that is in your grasp that you think may not be avail to others, like in ENGLAND, as per my sweetiecherry, ELSA is coming to their place (snow and ice) which we don't have here in Manila. we have exotic foods here that I am not sure you have or you might have heard about it from other the news or from the internet. and speaking of exotic foods, let me introduce to you our "street foods" only in the PHILIPPINES ^_^
the 1st pic is what we called BALOT. its a chicken egg with a 1day old chick inside. the thing about this is youll gonna eat it with the chick adding up vinegar and a bit of salt ^_^ 2. is parts of a chicken. intestines, head, feet, liver. it will be cooked as grilled and last is the BUKO or coconut in English. I was about to add the TAHO or liquefied soy beans which is very healthy too ^_^
so what about yours?
~ Throw me to the wolves and I will return leading the pack ~
In the US we have people from all over the world, so we do have some restaurants and shops that offer foods from various countries, which is pretty neat. I would only consider it authentic if the people running the place are from those regions, though =p
As for what we have that others don't... It can sometimes depend on which State you live in!
One example: Grits! Before I moved to the "South", I never really ate grits... but grits are pretty popular in the south. I see them almost on every menu, but they aren't served in south FL much lol in comparison, in south FL it has a lot more latin culture, so that type of cuisine is everywhere.
In New York... lox and bagels are popular.. mostly in more heavily Jewish areas =p
Some more popular items... mayonnaise, biscuits and gravy..
Here we have the tradition of oliebollen whoch are a bit like doughnuts .. Herring which people eat like penguins and of course klompen'., The famous wooden shoes that people still wear esp farmers, most often yellow but they can be painted in any colour of style.
