It's our rainy season now if you call it that. We get more rain durning the summer due to frontal boundaries off of the Atlantic Ocean colliding with those from the Gulf of Mexico.
Our lawn turns brown, we have severe drought again.
Are you allowed sprinklers?
Hi Cherry,
We have automatic sprinklers with the timer set up to go on twice a day, then we reduced it to once a day for only 10 minutes. Now we have to do it every other day for 10 min.
Sprinklers are a life saver for my lawn. We actually have two water meters because the water used for irrigation isn't processed for drinking and the cost is really low.

Two house water supplies? That must get complicated at times.
Our lawns go a bit brown sometimes in the summer but I don't worry too much. Not having to mow the lawn is one less job and it soon perks up with a little rain. The worst is the deep rooted weeds which still find enough moisture to thrive.

I never really thought about it before, but this lawn never browns, I presume it is due to the shelter we get from all the trees.

They are two completely different systems and the charges come in on one bill. We never really have to think about it.

Probably. Our back lawn is always green too but it is far more sheltered. The natural run of the soakaways from the rainwater is rearward as well. Our front lawn is the one that goes brown.
One point to be aware of though is that it is an indicator of a water leak if one patch stays far greener than the rest.
Yesterday I was busy. I picked two ice cream tubs full of redcurrents for the freezer. There are quite a few more but they are not ripe yet so not too bad a year

I tended to my hydroponics yesterday and instead of taking them down for the summer I decided to trim them back and see if I can get any more out of them. There appears to be some new growth.

Hi Heather, about 2-3 hours of morning sun.
That's usually the more favorable time of day for shade plants if they were to get some sun, so that's good. Later sun can be damaging to some of them.
My tomatoes in the greenhouse are growing differently this year. Normally I fail to deter side growth and they branch out. This year I have the overhead wires and twine hanging down rather than canes. With this the tomatoes are trained upward. I don't have the space for the recommended lowering down when they get to the top so am training them overhead. I visualise tomatoes hanging down but we will see lol. They are coming online a bit now and the current warm spell is helping. I have only two tomatillo plants this year, both out in the garden. One is growing fruit now but the other is ailing so I will probably only have a few.
