I'm sure we'll come up with a lot of better things in the future. We'll be able to replace some of the eyesores and things that take up too much space the more we invest into it and allow things to advance.. because it would be ideal to have the same amount of energy (or more) with less.

What we need are interlocking solar roof tiles to replace our clay, slate and concrete tiles.

Wow I really like the look of those.. I just dont trust tesla ! But this is exactly how we need to advance if we have any hope of replacing fossiel fuel.
Electric cars are a bit of a myth, no one asks where they get the power from or how much draw they are. Or how far you actually have to drive one until it becomes carbon neutral..Or how dangerous they are when scrapped or in a crash. Its not pretty reading ..
I live in a neighbourhood built in the 1930's Much of the wiring system dates from that time although the cables have been re-newed the system is basically the old one. In the past year the council have put in at least 6 electric charging points in 4 neigbouring streets earlier this year 'something' overloaded the system and caused the main junction box to over heat and catch fire leaving us without power for 8 hours while generators were bought in then one by one streets were re -routed and re connected.
Without stating the cause the council covered most of the charging poles ..

Those are too costly still for now, but some companies are working on making them more affordable... maybe one day they will be the same price as an ordinary roof.

There are lots of environmentally 'wise' bits of information that is not common knowledge. The one that spaces me out most, is that ecologically speaking, it is better to keep an old gas guzzler that spews out pollution, than it is to make a brand new ecologically sound car.
Talking about solar energy, my husband is already on a mission to solarize our next house. One of the criteria is the house should not have existing solar system so that he can put on his own.

And chances are it will be a much better system with the advances taking place.

I still don't know how solar saves us Karen, our house is fully solared and the bills don't quite reflect it.

As I live in a more wind less sun counrty I would opt for a vertical wind turbine if I had the choice.. Even the smaller and more compact ones are capable of producing 2kw. Of course it means adapting to battery power you need to store the energy but it would mean being independant of the national grid..
Commerical solar power promoted as clean, safe and eco friendly..
The truth here is that it has destroyed the habitat of the animals that used to live in these fields hare, deer, buzzards (and their prey) storks, herons and many more. To be replaced by a sea of dead black panels...
Two windmills would have lasted just as long, produced just as much power and been much less intrusive..

It's a tricky decision all of this taking energy.
I also notice that the sun is no longer hitting that piece of ground, and with windmills, the wind is being slowed down.
Currently, these solar panels and windmills, even wave energy absorbers are just a trickle, but what's the overall effect?
Particularly when we stop fossil fuels and rely on nature for much much more energy.
Some of the critters will probably return to the area. Can't keep them away =p
We definitely need balance... we're switching to cleaner energy for the betterment of the environment, but there will still be a price to pay for wildlife... It might still be better off than if we keep things as they are completely and poison the air and water to beyond repair.. then nothing could survive anywhere if bad enough.
