So I posted in my Diary that I was thinking about trying cell based vaccines for the flu. I was concerned about the contents and how the cells were harvested. Then I found this:
Interesting. I take my friend who is a type 2 diabetic to the hospital regularly recently she's asked me to sit in when she has her doctors appointment He was explaining a newer drug that comes in an injectable pen form called ozempic the person injects it once a week and since she's been using this her blood sugars have dropped back to a normal level, she is using much less insulin and is healthier because of it. The specialist seems to think that the ozempic will eventually replace the use of insulin for diabetics, bringing with it other health benefits that insulin does not.
my mom's xeljantz alone for her RA is $3000 a mo. she has to apply for help to get it free because they can't afford it on ss and it's the only thing that helps. however they usually have to do 2 meds and she's having trouble with the leflonimyde. (not sure on the spelling). she can't take anything else. $3000 a mo. that's ridiculous.
I found the English name for it... In the first couple of weeks it did cause a bit of morning sickness but my friend said that passed and it wasnt too bad anyway. She isnt on a high dose but the doc is hoping that by next year he will be able to wean her off or down to an absolute minmum of insulin in her injections. Shes also lost some weight which is a huge problem with diabetics. Yes the drawback is the price but once more people use it and the additional care that diabetics often need is reduced the costs will even out.

Yes one of the side effects is that it is an appitite supressent. It also comes in an oral form so not just the injectable.
I guess that works out well because many people with type 2 diabetes are also obese... and for some their diet habits are they reason they have it to begin with. Won't be good for those without that issue, though.
As you know I am winding my workload down. I have now stopped the care homes. As much for covid reasons as anything. I didn't want to think I was the person to take the infection in with me.
As they hadn't asked me back, I emailed them to tell them of my decision. Two of them never even responded... I had been going there for ten years, without a single complaint from a patient, or a member of staff, and something I am quite proud of, not one emergency call for an existing patient.

I'm proud of you for wanting to give that up so you don't possibly bring it in to them but I'm sure their in house staff will.
