For me its the same as always in recent years, OH and I will take the dogs out somewhere to watch the sunrise and have breakfast al fresco. Then I skype my mum and the grandchildren say hi to everyone online and spend the rest of the day playing board games or watching a film with OH. I make a nice dinner for us two and after walking the doggies in the evening I might even have a drink..
Boxing day my daughter and her husband will be round but not until about 5pm..
In years gone by when my children were teenagers boxing day was open house here, they could invite anyone they knew or had met along the way, people without families or those who for whatever reason were not welcome. Sometimes we had 20+ people crammed in, Id make sausage rolls, mince pies, a huge pan of soup and filled rolls and it was eat drink and be merry.
A tip for anyone with small children or grandchildren is the portable north pole...
I use it every year for my grandchildren, theres normally a free video but I think thats run out this year (huge demand) but the paid video is about 6 mins Santa says your loved ones name several times during his story and uses several photos.. Last year when he mentioned where my grandaughter lived and showed a picture of her house she nearly fell over with shock..
Its a lovely treat for children to get a special personal video from Santa esp this year when I doubt they will be able to see him in person
Staying home with my husband. Enjoying the holiday quietly this year. We will have a nice dinner and hopefully spend some time out back talking a nice walk through the woods or even kayaking. Not our typical Christmas by far.
We'll be staying home. Usually we go to my SO's mother's house. Although, things had been different due to our dogs last year... their health is declining, so we already had to leave earlier than we normally would. It would have probably been that way this time as well, so it is working out okay.
I need to start looking for presents. I usually buy stuff from Amazon to ship to houses if not giving money lol
I am well into the present buying for my daughter, but not so well for my other two kids.
Present buying for Andrea has been tricky...
I got her an alexa. A week after it arrived, she said "I am going to buy an alexa, the patients are telling me they are really good!" So I had to tell her....
A week later we are in the shops and she has a pair of bud speakers in her shopping basket. "I got you a pair of them for xmas!" says I.
These days I ask my daughter what she wants and its always practical stuff.. Her husband had a wish this year new bath towels because he told her 'your mum buys really nice ones ' Plus they are each getting new clogs, handmade from willow by a local craftsman..

Sorry to brag but Ive done the gifts wrapped and sent. Ive written the cards and sent the ones for overseas. Yesterday I put the tree up (yes it is an all day job.. Mostly because I have to walk up and down the stairs a hundred times to get everything from the loft.
Ive got a lot of my secret Christmas goodies hidden away in the store cupboard .. I buy a little each time I go shopping in the weeks leading up to December. My mincemeat is now ready and the first mince pies will be made this weekend..

Our town in the north is ranked as one of the poorest in the country, one neighbourhood ( the Wielenpolle) is ranked as the poorest in the entire country yet every year they decorate their houses and as people walk or drive through to see the lights there is the chance to make a donation. They have raised money for parents and children with MS they have provided toys for our local hospital's childrens dept and sent thousands of euro to the local food bank and salvation army hostel.. With a community spirit like this I think they are far from poor...

I'm an atheist (well, agnostic) and don't celebrate any holidays. I lowkey moved away from my ex-girlfriend about a week before xmas last year so I wouldn't be there to begrudgingly celebrate with her and her daughters (4 and 11 y.o. now). I did assemble a children's kitchen in about 4 hours and put a huge blanket over it while my ex was at work (she worked overnight before quitting a few days after I moved) and the kids were asleep.
I was reluctant to comment here about that because I seem evil, like the Grinch, but someone has privately convinced me to participate instead of lurking.
Edit: When my niece was younger (she's 16 now), and I was dating another woman back in 2007 (were together for 6 years) who had a son the same age as my niece, I bought them a lot of xmas gifts which was out of character for me. I think kids make the holidays special or something. Lol

I have a friend who dreads Christmas, she cant stand all the fake love dovey stuff .
My dad hated it , it bought back terrible memories of abuse dealt out by his stepfather.
Im an atheist but I love Christmas. I love all the cheery music and lights. I love the ease of giving and the idea of hope and peace.

I am also an atheist, and would even describe myself an an enthusiast. I think the deal is, if they don't preach at me, I won't respond.
Xmas and kids, that is all about vicarious living imo, and yes it's great.
I love seeing kids going past my house at xmas, with their new bikes, prams, puppies etc
When my children were little I would put the Christmas tree up while they were in bed. the following morning when they got up I would make sure the living room lights were off and only the tree was lit up. I would make hot chocolate and currant buns for their breakfasts and have it waiting for them. That moment when they walked into the room and saw the tree ....it was so magical.
These days I send gifts to my grandchildren and if I'm lucky I see videos of them opening the parcels and sometimes a Skype call.but just seeing their excitement or hearing them on the Skype is enough to make it worthwhile.
On Christmas day I will Skype with my parents. I miss being with them for them holidays and this year we won't be traveling to see them as we originally planned...
