one time, I went in to a pizza place and I asked the woman in the store for a peperoni pizza
her: oh I'm sorry, but we're out of dough
me: you're running a pizza place without any pizza dough?. well it's my birthday, and I've come for a pizza (I had planned to eat at pizza express)
her: well we don't have any
me: well what do you suggest I do for my birthday?. my plans are ruined now.
long pause while she looks me up and down and ponders the situation
her: go home and get a shower. you clearly havon't in a while, if ever
I was fuming!, and as for said pizza, I looked elsewhere where the staff were a lot more aproachable and I did get a pizza, and I did enjoy it very much
Hm, it has actually been doctor office staff giving me the most trouble lol is that customer service in a way!?
I'll try to schedule labwork, and they tell me I must come in for a physical as well to get my blood drawn, and then they limit which days I can come in by doing so. I have chronic issues, and I need blood work done a few times a year or more, so I need to be able to just come in and get that done to make sure my meds are still the right dose.
They go back and forth with me over this until finally letting me come in just for my blood work, but usually it's a month later than when I first tried. It's such a hassle. Also, I keep having telehealth visits with my doctor in the meantime, and yet they are not considering it me visiting with my doctor for some reason lol
I once went to build a bear workshop. it was busy with kids, so patiently waited my turn
when it got to my turn, the woman looked at me as if she'd just seen something that wasn't even meant to be in her store, and I'm stood their thinking oh.. what is it going to be this time? (because it's always something)
me: excuse me can I build a bear?
her: no
me: is their a problem?
her: actually, their is, and it's standing right next to me (not she, it)
me: I don't follow?
her: you're too old to build a bear. you're not 8. the carpark's that way (pointing out the door)
as I walked away she screamed after me it's people like you that keep the kids from their dreams!
I do my best to be polite to everyone I come across, especially, if I am at work. Being rude, getting into arguments, is simply unpleasant, a waste of time, and very inefficient.
That woman with the bear workshop deserves the sack. No debate, just gone.
Customer service on the phone is pulling up a chair, having something to eat and listening to that dreadful music. Oh ya, and hearing I am number 25...24....23....22......... in line...

My least favorite customer services reps are the ones who don't speak English very well. I have no thing against people who don't speak English, but if I need a problem solved, then we need to understand each other lol

I know, that seems to be the norm and not the exception.

It's even worse when it's the IT department of where you work LOL that is how it is in my case. They make me restart my computer a billion times even though my issue is with the remote connection on their end and not my computer lol they don't seem to understand that.

I completely agree with you Heather. I also believe that if you choose to move to a foreign country, you better learn the language of that country.

My hospital IT dept were rubbish. If they found a good member of staff, and it did happen, they got poached.

A lot of the call centers are in India! I can usually understand most of what they say, but not always. There's definitely a communication barrier.
I have opposite and stuck on the end with some real piece of work customers. I was always nice and tried to be helpful.
Oh yes, customers can be VERY interesting in their ideas.
Like thinking that their seven year old can strip in the children's clothing department to try on gymnastics items, when there's a dressing room like twenty feet away? Yeah, she ripped me a new one claiming its fine since she's a child. I didn't hesitate to point a grown man staring at her, but this didn't phase her at all and asked if she was fine with a strange man staring at her child. She still continued to have her child change with me there! I made sure she heard my call on the walkie for a manager.
So she stops for a few minutes. Then I catch her again. She says its fine because no one is around. I pointed out her child is in her underwear on camera and it isn't appropriate. I wanted to throttle this fool who can't protect her child. She eventually left pissed oft, but I didn't care.
I like most of my clients, and because I am self employed, and people actually choose me, and pay directly into my hand, they tend to never return if they dislike me...
So, I get few customer problems.
I remember one snobby old goat, on hearing my costs, stated loudly "....and what do people who cannot afford that do?"
My approach to customer service is just to calmly state the facts and gauge their response before making a decision on action. There are so many different types of people. The ones that really grate to me though are those that regard the customer as stupid. That is most often the case in these big tech stores. With my background I can fairly easily go into any amount of detail on something as research is pretty easy these days so I do have a good idea on the issues before I visit the store, so to be told I should have tried this or that, or got someone to look, before I came just really gets my back up. I just stay calm, act dumb (even though I sometimes may know far more than they do) and resist any short-cutting. Keep em guessing! lol
From the other side, I used to hate answering the helpline at work as our customers (patients)sometimes demanded immediate response. Often not easy if it required a visit and they may be forty miles away. I found it difficult to handle sometimes as I hate phones and immediate response. I am slow thinking, liking to evaluate. It did get me on the carpet from time to time but the patient always came first and we did understand their sometimes very bad situations.

Yes, that's the worst.... "I already tried all this." And they tell you to do it again lol sigh.

"Without!" I replied.
i've worked in customer service related jobs my whole life. i've had some pretty bad experiences with walmart and dillons. i try to be nice to customers at all times but sometimes they can be assholes. it is usually at that point where i have trouble keeping my cool. if you want good customer service sometimes you have to be a good customer. although i know some folks suck at customer service positions and have no business being in them.
