Do You Think We'll Live On Mars?

I've seen Buzz Aldrin present this idea at the Space Foundation:

Quick answer no. Apart from the obvious problem of transport and oxygen the raditation on mars is many times higher than that of earth.
There is no way to produce sustainable crops and no water( that we yet know of) so a space base for short term reserch maybe if transport improves but in reality no ..

Maybe we should stop looking for another planet to mess up and concentrate on cleaning up the one we are on.

I think that there will someday be scientific settlements on Mars with rotating crews.

Why would we want to live there? 

Survive and study, or survive and get what we can, but living there would be quite unpleasant, without 'fixing' the climate, and atmosphere.

Humans want to do the impossible. Who knows.. it could be easier to fix the climate there one day because there's not billions of people already living there that ruin all your plans lol

Well we have only to think back to George Leigh Mallory and Everest, or why climb it - "Because it's there". If there is a will there will always be a way and with people there are always those with a will!

Humans ARE natural explorers. In science fiction it is great people live on Mars: But, in reality, I doubt it is possible.

It does seem exciting to think about the human race outliving earth. Perhaps Mars is the nearest planet to doing so. But there are a lot of issues and problems with doing so. We all know Mars is a hostile planet and the atmosphere different to earth. Plus gravity is five times heavier on Mars.

However, it is fun to think about and consider wild possibilities.
