Your thoughts? Your opinions or predictions?
I really don't know. But I have faith and hope that NASA will build on Mars and have people live there. But there are a lot of technical issues to be solved before that can happen. But one-day perhaps the human race will live on the red planet.

It depends what you mean by 'living'. If you mean normal living, then highly unlikely. What would be the point? If you mean set up a study camp, then most probably.
I think that until we can invent / design more rapid transportation methods then it is not that practical. Yes we could probably send anything anywhere but, say with accumulated radiation doses for instance, a short journey time would greatly reduce the problems.
Quick answer no. Apart from the obvious problem of transport and oxygen the raditation on mars is many times higher than that of earth. There is no way to produce sustainable crops and no water( that we yet know of) so a space base for short term reserch maybe if transport improves but in reality no ..
Maybe we should stop looking for another planet to mess up and concentrate on cleaning up the one we are on.

Indeed!
Spend less time on dreaming, and more on being practical.
I think it will happen one day because people have set their sights on it... When it will happen, no idea. I'm sure they'll find a way to make it safe for people to live on Mars eventually.

This planet should be our number one priority. Still, I am surprised at all the comments my thread has resulted in. I never expected that many posts in my thread!
Mars is part of science fiction. I guess I just wondered what we all thought about it! The science behind living in Mars I understand your comments about that, too.

Why would we want to live there?
Survive and study, or survive and get what we can, but living there would be quite unpleasant, without 'fixing' the climate, and atmosphere.

I am sure it is just the natural explorer instinct of humans. But I will stay put here. There won't be any malls there...

Humans want to do the impossible. Who knows.. it could be easier to fix the climate there one day because there's not billions of people already living there that ruin all your plans lol

You need to stop hanging around with people like that, Heather.

Well we have only to think back to George Leigh Mallory and Everest, or why climb it - "Because it's there". If there is a will there will always be a way and with people there are always those with a will!

Humans are natural explorers and there are those that will always reach for the stars.

Humans ARE natural explorers. In science fiction it is great people live on Mars: But, in reality, I doubt it is possible.
It does seem exciting to think about the human race outliving earth. Perhaps Mars is the nearest planet to doing so. But there are a lot of issues and problems with doing so. We all know Mars is a hostile planet and the atmosphere different to earth. Plus gravity is five times heavier on Mars.
However, it is fun to think about and consider wild possibilities.

Another interesting thought is Venus. Venus has a climate influenced by massive global warming. If we ever sort the global warming problems on Earth then maybe we will have the tools to enable use to do something on Venus? Maybe that's no good though as we messed up the Earth so perhaps we would be no good for Venus.

I may be wrong, but I watched a Brian Cox astronomy documentary and it may be possible Venus had the same atmosphere as Earth until a few billion years ago. This could've been because of the axis of Venus in relation to the sun. But Venus' atmosphere became hostile and turned toxic.
You'd have to Google it to see if I'm right, though.
