Not me. My sneezes are loud and forceful and scare whoever is in the room with me because there is no warning lol one time I sneezed while my SO was talking to his friend over discord, and they were like, "WTF was that?" and then he told him, and he was shocked it would come out of me.. he was like, "but she's so small!?"
wonderful, THIS is great. There is a lady, I love her sneezes because she SCREAMS 'em out. Yes, in a man's office, a women SCREAMING at us guys and it's all good. I laugh everytime. Sometimes, I joke with her and say "I'm going to one - up you and try to beat that one".
She's cute (she's married, this is not a 'hit' on her).

This reminds me of someone I knew in my teens. She had such a quiet little sneeze that you could hardly hear it. More like a cat sneezing, if you have ever heard. It was very ladylike, if you want to look at it that way, but it was natural, not intentional.

I think mother nature designed animal life to expel toxins and unwanted debris with some force. Best, I think, to let nature take its course. But there are occasions where a stifled sneeze is appropriate.

yes, I am still learning the art of perfecting a more quieter sneeze. I can sneeze really hard, but in my shirt, covered, and well to me, it's sounds less bothersome, but sometimes I do it for attention to be honest. Twice.
Story 1 - in mainland japan, out in the open of the city square full of people, I looked at the sun on purpose and when I felt that tickle in the nose begin and got a good one, then finished it off with a kind of "yaHOOOOOOOOO!!" making a loud Super Mario scream/sneeze. Kids all laughed at me. What I intended but it angered my wife. sss sss ssssss
Story 2 - at an aquarium, again, in the open, I let that sucker rip and a kid coming the opposite way, got scared and jumped and some old chinese ladies just all started laughing. It was great. The kid said "bless you" as he kept walking... good times

When I injured my back, the sneezes were terrible for years.. I'd try my hardest to not sneeze or make it barely come out if possible, but those sneezes will do what they want regardless. Tapping on or holding on to a counter sometimes helped, though I guess my back is doing much better now because my sneezes are back in full-force... lol

You will know more about this than me but I have understood that it was not really in the Japanese culture to be so open in this way. Also I have noticed, in the past, that the Japanese wear masks far more than people here so maybe worry more about pollution and bugs?
It does irritate many wives though when their husbands create a scene

Yes Jen, they wear masks a lot. Even before covid. Some part is manners. Some part is (your not gonna believe this..) but the face is not presentable (as if no make up, more ladies than guys do it but I heard its true, not all ladies but if you are in a rush and can't put on makeup, some just throw on a mask). Sorry, I am not trying to make them ladies look bad.
My wife is very sensative about her looks and I keep telling her that she is beautiful. She is wearing a mask (or at least from what I can tell) from not wearing make up but we just wear one every where in public.
As far as making a scene, yup, I have been known to be a clown. It's hard though... ...like when I go to pick up the children from school, I talk to the children because they want to practice their english. I salute them, turn my hat backwards, and do little things like that for trying to make them laugh. They seem to like it. I do too. I like to see them smile and not wanting them to think that we (Americans here) are all bad as some news like to present us (for example, any crime the US military does here is blasted in the TV news and we are even hated more). Sad!!!.
I try to not make my wife mad. I do. I have learned now that things that kind of get on her and I don't do it. The sneezes thought...oh man, no promises there, I will sneeze my brains out, especially if we are on a road trip ...and I roll down the window and let out my loudest, most offensive, gosh-darn, sneeze even the ants are pissed at me. Well, I'm exaggerating.
yup, I make them kind of embarrassed. i guess I want love and attention.
It can get a bit negative though as they obviously get contaminated. That's why tissues are better for hygene. For a lady, particularly, an embroidered handkerchief is a fashion accessory as much as anything else. In older times there was a lot more to things: handkerchiefs-and-flirting-language

My grandmother had all kinds of embroidered handkerchiefs and some of them where quite detailed and pretty. I think my mom still has them. I really have no need for them or those dresses shown in that article.
Once upon a time, a man tipped his hat when meeting a woman. It is somewhat harder to accomplish when the baseball cap is worn reversed.
I wonder if these subtle displays have opposite intents.
Baseball hats have now progressed along our entire social structure. Even the police are wearing them now. Time was when you only saw them on the disabled. Why? I have no idea. But it was quite prevalent.
I usually have a handkerchief in my bag, as well as tissues. I like hats too but don't often wear one. Sometimes I can be somewhat retro
(A handkerchief is also faster to retrieve than a tissue in a packet if I get a sudden sneeze too ).
What sort of hats? I do sun hats, wooly bunnets, and even a fascinator/hat for weddings, but never otherwise. I don't tend to see them either......
I have baseball caps, sun hats and, particularly useful now, my furry wrap around hat (bonnet?) (I mentioned previously on another thread - much like those Russian winter hats).
