Animals, including Wildlife & Insects

Some intereting articles Candy. They backup my experiences of spiders in the garden and house. A couple of years ago there was one in one of the waterbutts outside. When I first came across it when taking water it was very scared and scuttled well away. After a while it barely moved unless I surprised it. I used to say heelo to warn it when I was about to take the lid off the butt. I don't know whether it understood anything at all but sure seemed to learn.

Spiders have never bothered me but some can be quite scary.

Not in my house.

I think it is the way things progress as nature takes over. As a house gets older then things increase, unless kept in check. A new house has lots of solvent smells etc which my put them off as well.

I found a nest of spiderlings in my apartment: I was scared. I hated doing it, but I had to kill them: I couldn't have a hoard of young spiders wandering around my apartment. A mother spider had obviously laid her eggs in the corner of my lounge. I am sorry to her, but I had no choice.

I really DO NOT want spidereggs/spiderlings in my home. I don't mind spiders as a general rule, but not like that.

I have one thing to say about ants... Fire Ants... If you have encountered them you know what I mean.

It has made me wonder, in the past, how many unknown species I have come across and not recognised as such

Its possible, especially with insects.

There has been an outbreak here although quite a few miles from me. It was apparently brought into the country though. We have too many small mammals in comparison to reptiles so we would be more like the northeast there. Ticks are an increasing issue these days.

Thats good news for here. I have hundreds of little ones all around my property.

We have somewhat similar looking spiders here already, but this one is even bigger... As long as they are harmless, then I don't mind them.
