Japanese cartoons are not my thing ..

Ive seen a few and had the misfortune to see a couple of ' comics' that my sons had , they were shredded to save anyone else the discomfort of seeing them ..

I have a feeling your son has what is referred to as hentai and ecchi. I feel like a weeb for knowing those terms. There are actually a lot of good animes out there and they often capture the human emotions, as well as motives, of the characters better than western shows and western animation. It kind of makes me sad that I never really had the chance to grow up with them since I was kind of a stubborn kid with things like this (Star Wars included).

That is one of the problems with anime though. They can get heavily sexualized and you kind of have to filter out that if that isn't really your thing. I could recommend some animes that have epic stories and great writing though. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is one that immediately comes to mind since the creator of the original manga (basically like Japanese comic book), who is also a woman that is both an atheist and a dairy farmer, really did her research into the history of alchemy including what alchemists believed concerning concepts such as God. She really went into great depth with everything in the series including the political conflicts between nations despite it being set in a fictional world.


Manga is usually published back-to-front. Meaning you would read the panels and words from right-to-left. This is mostly because Japanese is a language that is either written left-to-right when written horizontally OR right-to-left when written vertically. The publishing is likely done for the convenience of the publishers. Though there are manga out there that is published front-to-back.

It's also the shape. Rectangles are not cuddly.
