My name is Vanessa and I am 29 years old and live in the New Forest National Park in Hampshire, UK with my wife Sophia.
We got married on 8 April 2024, having been together since 2015. Our marriage was originally planned to take place in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent Lockdown procedure of social distancing and public events restrictions caused us to temporarily postpone the wedding.
I love nature and walking in the Forest, so my location is ideal for doing just that.
My favourite wildlife are horses and butterflies. The New Forest is home to the recognised breed of ‘New Forest Ponies’ which are allowed to roam freely all around the Forest, including on roads and through the various villages. Being able to see the ponies each day, or whenever I want to, is a dream come true for me.
I am a qualified Nail Technician and run my business from my home. I only advertise via word-of-mouth through my acqaintances and my customers. My books are currently full so it keeps me busy throughout the week. The beauty is (if you pardon the pun ) is that I can control my own working hours, so I can have time off whenever I want.
Anyway, I hope that has given you a brief explanation of who I am, and I look forward to making new friends here.
Hi Vanessa and welcome from Florida to our little home on the internet. I have to say that is one of the best introductions from a new member in quite awhile. It is so nice to meet you and I look forward to hearing more from you.

Thank you.
I have much more to say about myself, but that will come in time

Greetings from Colorful Colorado, Vanessa! I echo kjay on your introduction. We're a small but friendly group. I look forward to reading your thoughts on life.
Nature is wonderful. I love to see the change of seasons in the Forest, with new wildlife emerging and the changes of vegetation. It is truly magical
Do you see the ponies?
The ponies are about all the time. They are free to roam all year round, apart from on busy main roads (too dangerous), so cattle grids are strategically placed to keep them off those types of roads. The normal speed limits throughout the Forest are 30mph and 40mph. However, the A35 which runs through the heart of the Forest has a maximum speed limit of 60mph. The ponies are definitely kept off that one.
The ponies are actually owned by people called 'Commoners.' These are people who live in property in the New Forest that has 'Communing Rights' assigned to it. This also includes cattle and pigs (if they own them). Pigs are normally released in Autumn (Fall) so they can eat up the fallen acorns. Acorns are poisonous to the ponies.
There is now a strict law preventing people from 'petting' and feeding the ponies. There is a maximum fine of £1,000 if anyone if caught. Forest Rangers patrolling the Forest will enforce it whenever possible.
Tourists are usually the worst offenders for doing that. I have seen them stop on the roadside and get out to take photos with them and pet them. There have been a few occasions when I have been close enough to 'advise' the tourist not to touch them. Generally they appreciate the warning.

Hard to believe there are wild ponies in our little rather urbanised country.
Hi Vanessa, welcome from Lincolnshire. I too live in a beautiful part of the country and am no more than a two minute walk to getting out into it. We have lots of wildlife but no free roaming horses though. That seems a more common idea down in the south in the quieter areas (Dartmoor too?). We just seem to have an explosion in the population of deer. There are quite a few horses but all stabled or fenced. I have come across the odd gated road across inhabited fields on my travels though on the Lincolnshire Wolds.
I look forward to your input from down there. I was only chatting with members of our art group yesterday. One of them is going back down to Hampshire for a visit next week and another who grew up there were discussing. The last time I was there I was passing through to get to the Isle of Wight, which I find lovely too, but have yet to really see your countryside.

Thank you Jen.
I have loads of photographs of the area too that I could share with the Group. I always carry a camera with me whenever we go out, as you never know what you may come across.
After joining the Forum I read Heather's suggestions about uploading photos through "Imgur" to ease the pressure on the server space. I have joined Imgur but I haven't had a chance to try to link a photo from them to the Forum yet (that should be fun ).
Anyway Jen, you certainly won't be disappointed if you get an opportunity to visit the New Forest. It is absolutely beautiful.

Welcome Vanessa, glad you join us. Do you do fancy manicure of your own creation?

Thank you for the welcome Ann
I don't always get the opportunity to do my own creations on my clients. Generally they will come to me with some decals they have bought online and ask me to put those on and coat them with clear varnish. Mostly though they just want a solid colour.
However, I do get to experiment on Sophia. She will let me do anything with her, so I can try out all sorts of creative designs. She even wears some of them when we go out. At least someone gets to appreciate my creative mind
