There is someone who is in desperate need of housing after their cancer stricken father potentially abandoned him. Communication between the two has been scarce. His father is at risk of losing his housing, they reside in an apartment complex, and his son is disabled. His son deals with fibromyalgia and he is also diagnosed with autism. He is able to walk, but not long distances. He also lacks essential survival skills to completely function, mainly due to parental neglect throughout his life. Additionally, he is African-American, so there are systematic barriers to deal with in order to acquire assistance. Assistance that someone like me could potentially obtain more easily and effortlessly. It becomes a never ending losing battle.
Another close friend has agreed to donate a wheelchair. We're arranging a date to pick it up. This way he has something to sit in, just in the event we have to stay in line for long periods of time. A nearby church offers assistance for housing, but would require him to be there around 7:30 AM / 07:00 and would likely have a long waiting period. I reside roughly two hours away from his area, so I would have to depart in the graveyard hours to get there with enough time to transport him over. He does not have his license or learner's permit. Though, has expressed a desire to acquire these items if time allows the right instructor.
He would like to have me be his roommate and he is speaking with his social worker to have me recognized as his caretaker. That way I could also get paid to look after him, while he focuses on other areas in his life that require improvement. Things forced onto the backburner for now. Gas money was never really an issue as he tends to give me money. Not just for essentials like gas, but also just out of gratitude.
I would like to know about other potential resources for someone in a potential crisis.
Thank you.
