I have just finished reading the book - "Les Parisiennes" by Anne Sebba, and subtitled "How the Women of Paris Lived, Loved and Died in the 1940s".
It was rather unusual in many ways. Although it was interesting and useful reading for anyone who is interseted in the occupation of France in WWII with detail of the lives of women of all classes and backgrounds. There was detail of art, fashion and entertainment in Paris with such names as Chanel, Dior and Picasso. Really much of what Paris is famous for.
It was unusual in having a cast list at the beginning of the book. As there are so many French names it is useful. I got taffled up at times. As I mentioned previously, I found the book confusing and it seems contradictory in some of it's statements but whether this is just strange grammar? It is also fully of names and facts so can get a bit heavy in places.
At the end of the book there is a couple of pages of points for discussion. This reminded me of school books but I ought to have looked at them before reading as I might have concentrated a bit more.
All in all I think it was an unusual book in many ways but well worth the read for anyone interested in 1940's history and /or women's rights as well as the art, fashion and entertainment worlds, as I have said. If you see it, give it a glance, at least.

And there IS swearing in it.
The book is called "The People We Hate At The Wedding" by Grant Ginder. I have read one chapter so far and am looking forward to devouring it. It isn't a serious book: it is fairly light-hearted. The plot is basic and the characters stereotypes. It has a bit of depth but it isn't a book that takes itself too seriously.
I shall offer my opinion when I finish reading it!

I finished A Shoe Addict's Christmas. TV movie was better, but the book was still interesting.
I'm reading another Hope Harbor by Irene Hannon, have a Star Trek Year Five graphic novel on the go, and haven't finished the Blueberry Beach book yet. Scattered reader this month!
I have now finished the 'Inspector Morse' - 'The Daughters of Cain'. It was a story I enjoyed reading. I think the main issues I have with these stories is that there is too much drinking and smoking though, Somehow it seems just wrong these days. Although there is drinking and smoking in other detective stories from the past, such as Hercule Poirot or Sherlock Holmes, it doesn't seem quite so opressive. Still it is part of the character of Morse though. Maybe John Thaw was the ideal actor for the part in the TV series. With his background in 'The Sweeney' which had a simular boozy, smoky main character he was ideal. It is interesting, although sad, to note that he was a heavy drinker and smoker in real life and he did die from cancer
'Death is Now My Neighbour' is the next one, which I have started.

Most of the books I've read always has at least one person smoking. There are descriptions of him/her lighting up: it seems a common theme in storytelling. I also notice there is a lot of sex in these books, too: even in Ruth Rendall there has been sexual images portrayed. AND there is the swearing: use of the f*** seems common.

I finished reading this book. It was sexually graphic: it definitely is a novel for adults and not teenagers. I thought it well-written. It was realistic and made logical sense. I could see that people IRL would react the same as the characters. It went into detail about past situations and present situations. It was properly constructed.
I'd give "The People We Hate At The Wedding" 9/10. It is quality but I'd only give it 10/10 if I wanted to read it again, which I don't.

Did I mention I started a Star Trek novel? It's the latest from the Discovery book series. It wasn't very interesting at first because there was so much recap I didn't need and slowly building, but then they brought in an alien people that I liked from the TV series and also some action. Hopefully that bodes well for the book, but I think I enjoy the older Trek books better so far. Gonna try SNW, though.
Getting closer to the end of The Two Towers with the older boys, and I have a couple non-fiction books on the go. I'll grab them for several pages here and there.
'Death is Now My Neighbour' is the next one, which I have started.
Having just started this I think it is not too long ago the I last read it. It sounds very familiar but I don't remember all the details so I will carry on.
I am reading "I'll Walk Alone" by Mary Higgins Clark. It is a good book so far: I shall finish reading to the end however the story goes.
I will give you guys a review when I've finished reading it!
I finished reading this book yesterday evening.
It was well written and with no swearing or graphic material. Mary Higgins Clark is therefore a popular writer for a reason. Her books - the one I read - is well constructed, clever, decent and interesting. They often have a happy ending too, which I love.
"I'll Walk Alone" is a book I'd read again. I don't regret reading it and shall read more of her books.

Im sure Ive read some of her books but I haven't kept any which says a lot.
I am now onto my second library book. Fingerscrossed I finish reading it today!
Which I did.
It was a gruesome story but well executed and well put forward. There was no enjoyment from the writer's point-of-view about the gruesome scenes: they were necessary for the story. It wasn't a gory entertainment novel at all: it had history and depth. It was based on murders committed in the 1800's. It was a dark story but the main character didn't allow you to get you onto the villain's side. The main character showed his disgust and anguish at the crimes. It also had a supernatural element to it: and this was very effective writing. It ended with justice.
I don't know if I'd read it again, but I am glad I read it in full today. It took a few hours but it was four hours well worth spending.

I finished reading another book. I read it in bed last night.
This is because in the evening I keep being interrupted by the telephone. I have now realized that reading at night in bed may be the only way to get my reading done.
I can't read in the morning: I am getting ready for the day. Reading in the afternoon doesn't give me enough time to go to my dad's house. And - as I've mentioned - the telephone keeps ringing in the evening.
"Death is Now My Neighbour" was good. It has a few good twists in it, and, from what I remember, it was one of the series which adapted better for TV too.
The beginning of the current one is a little bit strange and has not got into the swing yet.
I will try to finish reading my library book today.
And I did! I can't say it's my favourite book but it was well worth the read. I'm afraid I wouldn't read it again but it took skilled writing and a lot of imagination.
A 9/10 because it'll only get one read from me but others might feel differently and give it 10/10.
I am finding "The Remorseful Day" a bit more difficult to get into than previous "Inspector Morse" books. Perhaps it was the strange (at least to me) start.

Keep reading in one siting: you'll catch your stride and it won't be difficult anymore.
Inspector Morse is always good. I've seen the TV shows in the past. Ruth Rendall is one talented writer.
Ruth Rendall wrote the Inspector Wexford series: I apologize about the error.
Yes, I was a bit confused but thought it was just one of those little mistakes that we all make from time to time. It should have course been Colin Dexter.
I am getting more into it now but I am half way through. Maybe it's because of have read so many and have just about had enough of the character. This is the thirteenth since I got the set in February so it is more than two a month. Not that many really but I don't read too much fiction.
