This is a fascinating new theory.

When I was training, we went to a hospital to learn about blood pressure and the consultant pulled me out as the guinea pig. After testing me three times and frowning lots, he said "You have a slow heart and low blood pressure. Are you an athlete?"

Well there was much laughter around my colleagues, as that really was not me.

I'm mixed about that.

At first I was pretty excited about nursing school.

I imagined myself as a modern Nightingale flitting about
from bed to bed, saving everyone's lives, and earning
deep respect throughout the community.

The reality of being regarded as one step below the janitor
was harsh for me.

Such an arrogant, self serving group I had never met before.

Those old bitches hated us with a passion.

They strove to drive us out of school or internships.

Some were not even board certified, RN,s or college grads.

The MDs got all the accolades.

Don't be mixed, look after your own standards.

It is easy peasy lemon squeezy to be good at nursing, or any job, in any hospital. All you have to do is put the patient first. It really is that simple.

I have said this before, the kindest, sincerest compliment I ever had was from one of my staff who was furious at me. She was not getting something that she wanted, I think she wanted me to send her over to the diabetic care unit, and I wouldn't.

She said, and I remember as if it was yesterday: "You know what your problem is? You care for the patients more than you care for the staff!"

She turned on her heel and marched away, happy that I had been put in my place.

Sometimes I think American medicine is all about profit and earnings,
not true compassionate health care.

Then I think the Eu and other social countries are in it for all the right reasons.

I don't know enough to be sure.

But I do think that, at least for now.

I like to think that you would put the patients first. Treat people as you would like your father to be cared for.

Well, it was nice knowing you all...

Sometimes my heart rate is pretty high for a while because of my thyroid or anxiety lol in the 100s.. but for the most part I do stay under 100.

My blood pressure is pretty low, though... sometimes a bit too low.
