They already have to fight against so many odds, many of them which are our doing. I hope we will be able to remedy the situation.

I often imagine what the future will be like. How many species will we destroy inadvertently? Sometimes people do not realize the long-term damage they are doing, and yet our actions today may very well hurt every living thing on this planet eventually. So sad..

Some of you know that I love honey bees, and in the past they would actually crawl onto my finger. They didn't sting me because they didn't consider me to be a threat. Well, I wasn't a threat but pesticides and other things were. Now I rarely see my little friends. They are so cool and their pollinating supplies us with honey. You're right, Cher; it's like humans don't care about the other creatures and it's a shame. Heather understands.

Bees are crucial. Being without them will be devastating to our food supply.

I've signed so many petitions to make those pesticides illegal, so we'll see if anyone listens to rationality lol

We are also losing monarch butterflies and ladybugs. We're just killing everything off.

Maybe those in power will eventually decide that just eliminating animals and helpful insects isn't enough; perhaps they will try to exterminate humans that earn less than $100,000 per year.

I once read this book by Douglas Coupland (A Canadian authour, eh?) called "Generation A"

It is set in the near future and bees no longer exist. It isn't really the main focus on the story, but there were not really flowers, or fruit, and it was a pretty daunting future.

You should read it. It really made me think about the bees.

It is amazing how specie unspecific these new viruses are.

This is the first I heard of this.

I looked some of it up and the WHO believes it may have originated with bats eating infected insects, that may have got it from another unknown source.

Very very interesting on the communicable level.

Ebola isn't a new virus =p It only affects primates. So far it has only affected great apes, which includes humans, so that is somewhat specific. The bats are likely carriers, but are not affected by the virus.

Many of the people there eat "bushmeat" as well, so they are (improperly/unsafely) handling animals that carry the virus.
