What is the kindest thing a stranger has done or said to you

That is so sweet. The mother must have felt really proud.

I am sure I can add to this thread, just can't think of an example at this moment.

Well they were not exactly strangers but I didnt really know them ..

It was Christmas 1986 and my 2 year old son got mumps just a few days before the big day. One morning the doorbell rang and it was the Jehovahs witnesses. I recognised one of the ladies she had a little girl in my eldsest sons class at school.

I said good morning but said I couldnt talk because R was sick and running a fever with mumps.. They said get well soon and left. About 2 hours later the doorbell rang again and it was the same JW lady.. I looked confused and said I told you I cant talk R is sick..

She said 'I know but I thought maybe I could help you get some Christmas shopping or baby sit for you so that you can get stuff done , I know how busy you must be'

I could have cried, my two catholic neighbours hadnt even said get well let alone offer to do anything and yet this lady was offering to do my shopping.

This isn't really about me or toward me, but a funny story to maybe tell in here about people being kind with strangers.

Me and my SO were in a car accident on my birthday the year we met (2009). It was going to be our first official date. An older lady hit us in the rear side, and the car completely spun around. She felt bad, and she gave us a giant tin with an assortment of popcorn (it had 3 flavors). She tells us she had ordered food, and now she wouldn't be able to get it, so my SO asks her where she ordered it from, and he runs to the restaurant to pick it up for her a few blocks away lol this is what happens when two nice people get in a car accident.

Oh, I just remembered my story.

I was about 5, and I had saved my pocket money, as I really wanted a torch. Not a boring one with just a white light, but one that had a green and a red filter and a button that made it flash.

I expect by now you are all vicariously excited.

So I went to the shop, and asked for my torch. The girl I can still see today, even though it was so many years ago. She was quite a plain girl with long mousey blonde hair, quite young, with a pleasant expression on her face, almost pretty, but not quite.

"Would you like the batteries for it too?"

"I will come back for the batteries when I have saved more pocket money."

I can see her now looking casually left then right and putting the batteries into my torch, and the torch into the paper bag.

I hope I was as grateful as I should have been.

I expect she was a saturday girl, working for pin money. Probably an older teenager. I hope she has a good life, she can have no idea how much of an impression she has made on me that ** years later I am writing about her for the world to see.

That reminds me of how my parents would give me a present that would say, "batteries not included," and then they would have batteries wrapped as another present lol

I remember when I was little I was so excited one Christmas to open my first gift. Guess what, it was batteries. I was a little upset. But the next few gifts need those batteries and the frown turned to a smile.
