This is a risk with all relationships, but I'd imagine it's even a bigger risk with open relationships where you allow each other to fall in love with others.

I think you need some very strict rules and understandings to cope with polyamory, especially if it does not involve the two participants directly. ie them and one other.
The family set up there seems so civilised one could almost believe it could work sadly I think multi partner families are almost doomed to failure in western society because its not considered the norm.
I do have a friend who is into BDSM she doesnt 'play' much anymore but she allows her partner (he is a sub) to go on play dates. Although this is much different to an emotional relationship and there are rules about what can and cant happen.. (I didnt ask for details)
My Dad was almost 12 years older than my mom. Same with her sisters, they married to men 10-12 years older than they were. My grandparents wanted to make sure their husbands were established before the marriage.
I think men are less mature than women if they are the same age. I definitely don't like younger men, can't babysit anyone here. Even if they are successful, they tend to let it get over their head.
Yeah, I feel like a 10-year age difference is starting to push it a little. I do think it depends on the ages at the time or stages in life, though. Sometimes the difference is far too noticeable, and one will seem like they are very old while the other seems really young.
But if they are the same age difference between you and your mom/dad... I don't know how that doesn't feel awkward when bringing them to meet your parents... lol and then they become friends because they have a lot in common? I would not like that that's just me, though!

.....and then they want to start hanging about with your parents.
I once went out for a drink with my dad and my ex's boss. I got stuck between them, while they chanted off wwII warships, trying to find out if they had ever been on the same ship.
Ages is funny thing, when I was 16 and he was 23 it was scandalous. When I was 25 and he was 32 it was ok but noticeable now at 56 and 63 no one blinks.
What really makes the difference was the age of our parents. Mine were younger freethinking quite liberal his were much older born before world war II and very very traditionalist. So while I find that my thinking and acceptance has remained quite flexible his are more rigid more conformist. So it's not just your age in years but that age that you are given by your parents attitude.

The second assistant I trained up was just 18, I was 27, but you would never have known by listening. She had her parents values from start to stop, and they were old fogies in their mid forties.
Allison was her name, the last time I saw her she must have been early fifties, and she still sounded the same. lol
I personally do not have this problem. My SO's ex did have this issue... for many years, and she was trying to rekindle their relationship while I was with him lol he had to eventually ignore her at that point. Initially he was still at least trying to keep in touch as a friend, but she kept taking it too far.
Most of my exes didn't live near me lol I usually end up just ignoring and deleting them all for one reason or another.
My last ex did try to get back with me after acting like it was the best decision ever to not be together anymore, but I refused to see him. He was just trying to make me jealous I guess, but I was actually done. We both were casually dating, and he would share his stories, so I shared mine... but that made him sick to his stomach lol oh well.. I tried to remain nice and friendly with him, but he was behaving so immature afterward, especially once I entered into the relationship I am in now, and I had to remove him from my life completely. He was basically arguing with my current SO and some of my friends online... I would say he was "butthurt" lol
I just order a bunch of taser guns and bear pepper sprays for my nieces, sisters and female cousins. I also made a good donation to GoFundMe for that grandma who beat up her attacker. An eye for an eye, that's how it should be.
