Metal detectors sound like a reasonable preventative action. But I’m a bit doubtful they would deter a committed suicide bomber. The detectors might in fact create a bottleneck for people entering the mall and, although outside, still result in multiple killings. I’m not certain the shop owners would be all that enthusiastic either since it may reduce mall attendance due to inconvenience. But I realize this is a very secondary concern.
Heather I agree with your comments for the most part. But I think all tools including instruction as to a Somali profile should not be excluded. I think this would be valuable when observing people in a crowd. Suspicious clothing of course is part of the security target.

OK this was interesting to me anyway.....
Glenn Beck (I know lunatic right-wing idiot) was showing clips from his old FOX News show (2011). In 2011 he (Beck) was reporting the evidence on radical Islam and predicted multiple times their goal being to create an Islamic Caliphate.
He then showed other TV clips (2011 time), MSNBC, Jon Stewart, Colbert, CNN etc., mocking him and FOX News for suggesting such a caliphate.
Finally, Beck presented how the "main stream media" including MSNBC are now today reporting the goal of an Islamic Caliphate and the severe problems ISIS may cause.
I could be partisan and ask.....do you watch the News to find out what happened today...or do you watch News to enhance your perspective?
Regardless though, it is best to watch and read from diverse sources
You have some sympathy for my husband now don't you!

I refer to Fox News as Faux News. I listen to Public Radio now. I don't align myself with politicians that are far right or far left. I consider myself to be a Moderate.

I'm going to side-track a bit here, but I think that when we were little we didn't care about someone else's religion or skin colour; we just wanted friends! Some have continued with that philosophy, but many became jaded by societal pressures as they grew older. It's unfortunate that all of us couldn't retain that little kid inside.

John should have been a Rutle! Believe it or not, he enjoyed them. And, regarding my post; I try to keep that little kid alive within myself. It is much better to be friends instead of enemies.
Well, my childhood did include a girl who tried to convert me religiously. She said she couldn't be my friend because I was Jewish. She then started to bully me.. and this was after we were friends for a while first! She even got other girls to bully me with her. This was back in elementary school.. I was probably around 10 or 11?
So, yeah.. I'm sure her mother realized I was Jewish and told her bad things about me. I don't feel like kids just behave that way on their own... it is definitely learned.
Ever since then I didn't want to tell anyone what my religion was.

It is learned. If parents teach their children the right things, odds are that they will grow up to be caring individuals and become good parents themselves. I knew a Jewish girl from a pub that I frequented and around Christmas-time, she would come in and say Merry Christmas to everyone. When she said that to me, I said Happy Hanukkah to her. She thanked me and teared up a bit. I think that most people appreciate kindness rather than meanness.

Believe it or not, you are my first jewish friend ever.
I am sure I have others, but they have never owned up to it.
There was an article on the radio here a while ago, and all the young jews are now calling themselves wejs, in order to try and re-align people's thoughts of them.
I have never come across any anti semitism in this country. Plenty of anti-catholic in Scotland, but nothing against the jews.
I am sorry you had a hard time, being brought up catholic in Scotland, I know just how you feel.
Incidentally, over her there is the common belief that it is the jews who run america. They are the hand up the puppet president.

It's a shame that we can't just respect our heritage and reach out to others in a positive way. I used to work with a guy originally from Texas and he said that over half of his friends when he was a kid there had last names like Gomez, Garcia, etc. He told me that he didn't care what their names were; they were his friends.

It is the common belief here, too, but it's not meant in a nice way lol "greedy jews" is how jews are seen.. we control everything, and we're greedy, selfish people... lol
Being Jewish to me is more of a cultural thing than religious really. I appreciate the traditions, and I enjoy sharing them with others. I'm more agnostic religiously ;-)

LOL You are worse than me, an athiest who enjoys churches as photographic back drop.
The only perceived benefit to the jews running America, as perceived over here, is that the americans are very supportive of Israel.
This is a tremendous personal and political gamble by Netanyahu. He is putting it all on the line by addressing Congress and warning them of the Iranian threat. It's why so many of us in America admire him. Despite the controversy, despite the threat to his re-election, Netanyahu is coming to America to tell his ally they are making a grave error by trusting Iran on a nuclear deal.
With all the Islamic turmoil in the Mid-East, does anyone seriously think Israel is the problem? Is there really any concession Israel could make that would make any difference?
I think it is important that 'we' have a foothold in that area, but currently Israel are overly agressive towards Palestine. The Gaza strip in particular.

They remain and always have been the main problem.
They could stop being them... that would be a good concession.

How can it not be a problem? The modern state of Israel was set up as a concession to placate the Jewish people after the horror of WWII and honestly because the rest of the world didnt want the nation of Israel camping on their doorstep ie NIMBY.
The setting up of that state involved stealing land from the idiginous people who lived there and since its conception Israel has grown massively (see map in link) each time Israel grows it is in fact stealing yet more land..
Israel has maintained a blockade on goods and materiels entering Gaza since 2007 causing a real humanitairan crisis and forcing the people there to live in ghetto like situations.
Im not ranting about Israel or Jews Im against anyone who discriminates against another , marches in takes their land forces their people to live in squalor and poverty whilst all the time claiming to be a victim.. but if the cap fits....
So if Israel didn't exist there would be no Islamic Jihad? I'm doubtful.
Here is my take on Netanyahu's speech yesterday......
Netanyahu’s speech yesterday revealed a leader. You may disagree with him. But his speech was apolitical and not just the pap talking points so common with US politicians. He did not ask the USA to rescue Israel; instead he said they would go it alone. That is leadership and not “leading from behind”. Netanyahu was manly and I appreciated that.
It is sad when one world leader cannot take the time to listen to another world leader and ally. Someone in the Democratic party should apologize.
I do believe that a religion as old as the jews, and as persecuted as the jews were in WW2, should have somewhere to call home.
Why does a religion need a homeland?
By this reasoning should we turn over the whole of Italy to the Catholics and let them persecute the Protestants?
People should learn that religion is a choice, it can be practiced anywhere, it does not need a home land or building it is a matter of faith not ground claiming greed.
That goes for all Jew Muslims Catholics etc etc and this whole spin on playing the victim and trying to blame other people for problems a group has of thier own making is exactly why I despise organised religion.
Anyone who kills or supports killing in the name of religion goes against the first commandment of their God and therefore has no right to claim moral highground in my book.
I am no expert, but I don't believe even Israel is so totalitarian that the place is solely jewish.
Italy is accepted as a catholic country, as is Spain. The UK is accepted as a protestant country. In all of these countries other religions co-exist, but the broad aspect of religion in each country is what governs.

Ask yourself this question, if the Iranian nuclear program is simply to achieve a nuclear bomb as a counter-balance to Israel....why does Iran also have an on going and complimentary ICBM development program?
Iran doesn't need inter-continental missiles to reach Israel! Israel is not the problem and its destruction will not end the Islamic Jihad.
When were bombs of any type religious ? Do they discriminate between beliefs?
In fact many of the responses show why religion does not work. yet again Anyone who kills or supports killing in the name of religion goes against the first commandment of their God and therefore has no right to claim moral highground ..
Best to stick to the biblical lesson and say Let he who is without sin cast the first stone....
Who dares say their belief system/ leaders are perfect?
