Star Wars is one of those series that many fans can show just how susceptible to addiction they can be. This addiction has also lead to several problems where the fans often times feel they know what is right for the franchise which doesn't always have to be a bad thing, but when that addiction stems from highly choreographed lightsaber fights and constant non-stop battles, evoked by George Lucas when he created the prequel trilogy from 1999 to 2005, the little details get neglected that has been established since 1977.
Ahsoka Tano is one such example of fans being completely disillusioned and disappointed whenever the franchise tries to add something fresh. Once one of the most hated characters when Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film premiered in theaters on August 15, 2008. It wasn't until mid-way through the course of the series, for which the film prompted, that the fans started to adore Ahsoka Tano. A process that is sure to repeat for the character of Rey Skywalker given the fickleness of the Star Wars fan base.
Sometime after the release of the ninth installment into the now deemed Skywalker Saga, Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. The franchise's new holder, Disney, announced several live action television series starting with The Mandalorean (2019) which introduced the world-wide phenomenon known as Grogu or more abruptly and inappropriately referred to as "Baby Yoda." Other series that followed were The Book of Boba Fett (2021), Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022), Andor (2022), and of course, the show for which this piece is about, Ahsoka (2023), the latest entry into the live action Star Wars line.
A continuation of the animated series, Star Wars: Rebels, years after the events of the Galactic Civil War with the galaxy now being governed by the New Republic. While most of the series mentioned above, with perhaps except to The Mandalorean, have this feeling that they've tried to differentiate themselves to the point where they've isolated themselves from the rest of the franchise. Ahsoka not only adds fresh new takes to the Star Wars galaxy, but retains that feeling of being Star Wars which is always the core factor that any series or writers should bare in mind. This series is a game-changer for sure.
Ahsoka is now streaming on Disney+ and episode three is now available.

we have just started season 2 of Unforgotten, after a Cassie recommendation. It is a good detective show, and a little different from the usual. It also doesn't have any real violence, and certainly no gore.
I met an extra from Midsommer Murders today! A real-life celebrity! She was shopping in a local bra shop. I wish I had had a chance to talk to her.
What a cool job being a TV extra is!
An actor from Midsommer Murders who is still alive?
The last person off the TV I met was a local newsreader / reporter. She had come into the car garage where I was having my car serviced as her car had got a problem which needed a quick sort. I was taken aback for a few moments but pushed myself as the opportunity to chat would never likely come again. I ended up finding out she was one of the nicest people I have chatted to in a long time. It really made my day.

That's how you get on in life, and get what you want. Well done, Jen.
If you haven't seen it, the movie Women Talking is very good. It's about this religious colony where the women and girls were beat and raped continuously and they discuss staying, fighting or leaving as their options on dealing with it.

That description makes me think of The Handmaid's Tale a bit.
Shows like that are scary, but I love if they ever fight back.

I finished the first season of Call the Midwife last night, so it's been returned to the library (with a note to try cleaning the skipping second disc). Not sure exactly when I'll get Season 2, but I love the show!
I'm halfway through the 1995 Pride & Prejudice, might finish that in the next week. And then I'll watch the Sense & Sensibility from 2008!

I can't watch that kind of thing. Rape as entertainment is just too far for me. We have to deal with enough oppression in real life ..

I have occasionally watched such things but mostly in the past. I seldom do now, for similar reasons.
Thanks to RebeccaJo .. we started Picard s3 this evening
And? Do you like it? I did! (Although in the first episode or two, I wasn't so sure about the writing direction... Then I was won over! Lots of good moments to be had in every episode even if I had still wanted to quibble about plot choices.)
My pre-ordered copy of Picard Season 3 should be here by Wednesday. I loved to collect Star Trek before streaming came along, and now I'm glad I don't have to make decisions about which services to pay for just to have Trek available. I watch the new shows as they air (on a sci-fi channel added to my basic cable package), then buy them when I can! Still haven't started collecting Lower Decks, though. Maybe soon? We'll see!

Ok we are on episode 4. Im loving the inclusion of old characters. The plot and some of the scenes are familiar but as J Frakes is at the helm I realise where that is coming from.
Scifi on tv or film is always third rate to books.
Depends who's writing it. The last Star Trek Discovery book I read didn't please as much as an episode or two of the show - I think it needed to be seen to be enjoyed. Other Discovery books have been decent...

I was not really a Star Trek fan. In the UK we had Blakes 7 at the same time, and it was vastly superior, although too little was spent on the special effects. Though it was fun laughing at those too.
I never liked Blakes 7 . ST has always been my space favourite. Dr Who is my sci fi best though.
We just finished watching some of the old William Hartnell series. They seemed a lot better back then.
Most fun was had from looking at the appalling sets, and the most shocking sexist attitudes of the time. Women were only employed to scream, faint, or be patronised, when they said anything sensible.

I like the old ones too. I prefer to watch them in short doses as, apart from the sets, some of the acting was somewhat stilted too.

Last night I felt like more special features from The Two Towers extended edition set. I finished a disc and realised there's one more if I want to wrap that up before watching The Return of the King (which we recently finished reading). I like that they called these features their appendices, similar to what Tolkien did with Return of the King.
I might be overdoing it on special features, but it seems reasonable to watch since I paid for all of that content along with the movies. (I'm also working my way through the special features of Picard Season 3. I'm crazy for making-of and behind-the-scenes content, apparently!)
